DEFINIÇÃO
A
História Oral surgiu na década de cinquenta como forma de valorização das memórias
e recordações do indivíduo. Com a criação em 1966 da Associação de História
Oral abriu-se caminho para a afirmação desta nova técnica de recolha da
informação oral.
A
História Oral é entendida como um método de recolha e preservação da informação
histórica através do registo de vivências e acontecimentos vividos pelos testemunhos
ou entrevistados. A sua realização obedece à técnica da entrevista, mas não
pode ser considerada como um acto jornalístico. Os seus métodos conferem a quem
quer que seja a possibilidade de acesso a esse registo. Esta última situação
implica a existência de um Laboratório e Arquivo de História Oral.
