RELIGIÃO

 

 

O debate entre a Religião e a Ciência parece eterno a partir dele parte o referente à relação entre este e a Ecologia. A forma como o homem se relaciona com o quadro natural prende-se muito com as suas crenças religiosas. Insiste-se que o Cristianismo com base na Bíblia defende uma relação dominadora do homem face ao meio que o envolve. O texto que encima esta breve referência assim o reitera. Todavia a partir da década de setenta muitos teólogos e pastores da igreja participam activamente no movimento ambientalista, dando-nos uma imagem distinta da relação do Cristianismo com a Ecologia. Neste domínio salientam-se os livros de Richard Austin(1987), Daniel Spring[1974, John Camody(1983), Ian Bradley(1992), Ian Barbour(1966 e 1977), P. W. Bakken(1955).

Neste quadro justifica-se a valorização dada à vida e obra de S. Francisco de Assis, considerado o patrono da Ecologia. Ele é a resposta aos detractores do Cristianismo. Confira-se por exemplo os textos de Maio Marzi(1981), Roger Souell(1988), P. D. Allen(1996).

Todavia o mais destacado deste tema e a polémica ateou-se em torno da Religião e da Ciência, tendo como principal palco a centúria oitocentista mercê dos avanços da Ciência que para muitos foi uma reacção aos dogmas da Bíblia. Os dois mais destacados expoentes deste debate são John W. Draper[1811-1882] e Andrew Dickson White[1832-1918] com textos clássicos publicados, respectivamente, em 1874 e 1896. A sua aportação é corolário do debate que se ateou desde 1859 com Origin of Species de Charles Darwin. A bibliografia propicia-nos alguns textos orientadores da descoberta deste debate.
